Questions

Is Mnemiopsis harmful for humans – does it sting?

No. It is only true jellyfish, belonging to the phylum Cnidaria, who can sting since they are equipped with stinging structures known as nematocysts. Mnemiopsis is a comb jellyfish and belongs to the phylum Ctenophora which is a group unrelated to cnidarians and they all lack the stinging nematocysts.

What does Mnemiopsis eat?

Mnemiopsis is a carnivore that consumes primarily zooplankton and fish eggs and larvae.
