Management and organisation of BAZOOCA

BAZOOCA utilize a broad range of infrastructures in and around the Baltic Sea to fulfil its goals. The spatial distribution of institutes from the most northern to the most southern parts of the Baltic is strategic, and allows for a large spatial coverage, and offers possibilities to test hypothesises of cascading effects under very different environmental constraints within the Baltic. The Department of Marine Ecology- Kristineberg at University of Gothenburg hosts the project. Research is conducted at eight different academic and governmental research institutes in four countries, with 19 researchers engaged.

The field studies are performed at Tvärminne Zoological Station (Finland), Kalmar University (Sweden) and the Sven Lovén Centre for Marine Sciences – Kristineberg (Sweden). One intensive process cruise will be conducted with RV Skagerak (University of Gothenburg). Monitoring of the pelagic community will be carried out in connection with scheduled national monitoring cruises with RV Argos (Fishery board of Sweden), KBV 005 (Swedish Coast Guard), RV Dana (National Institute of Aquatic Resources, Technical University of Denmark) and RV Aranda (Finnish Environment Institute).

Prof. Peter Tiselius at the Department of Marine Ecology, University of Gothenburg is the Project Coordinator.
